About Us

 

In the summer of 1946 two brothers,  recently honorably discharged after serving our country in World War II, started the first exclusively propane company in the state of Georgia.  Operating out of a front room in their parent’s house on the city square in Warrenton, GA, Wirt and Judson Wilhoit began their new careers with one truck and one customer, ………their father! 

 

The two brothers worked tirelessly to grow their business supplying Propane to the residents of Warren and neighboring counties.  Judson could be found in the office dealing with the day to day issues while Wirt was out in the field dirtying his hands setting tanks and crawling under houses. 

 

Today, after several expansions, acquisitions, and moves, Wilhoit Gas is now based out of Greensboro, GA and is owned by Wirt’s daughter Beth.  Since 1991, Beth has worked daily, diligently improving day to day operations and expanding the delivery area which now encompasses nine Georgia counties anchored around offices in Greene and Wilkes County.

 

Realizing the necessity to develop and train someone to one day succeed her in running the company, Beth called upon her son to follow in his grandfather’s footsteps and learn the business from the ground up.  Since 2006 Bill has worn many hats within Wilhoit Gas, answering phones, assisting employees in the field, developing customer relations, driving a bobtail delivering propane, no job is too large or small.

 

Although not family by birth, Wilhoit Gas has a couple of employees that are considered family due to their dedication and commitment to keeping Wilhoit Gas at the top of its game.  For over 15 years James and Alan have been loyal partners in the growth and sustainability of the company and they are much appreciated and kept in the highest regard.

 

Most recently, Bill's wife Heather has joined the team making Wilhoit Gas a truly family owned and operated business from the top to bottom.  Surely the founding brothers would stamp their approval of where the company is today and the direction it’s moving in the future!
